Saul Millan is a Composer, Multi Instrumentalist and Artist from the Bordertown of Ambos Nogales. With attention to site specific performances, Millan's improvisation driven works create spaces of reflection for performers and audiences alike. Mixing genres like Ambient, Psychedelic, Free Jazz, Krautrock, and Musique Concrete, Saul's soundscapes and performances intend to border the limits of performance art and music composition. Mirroring their intersectional background, Millan's work expands into the gallery space as both sound installation and sculpture. Exploring concepts
found in music composition, Saul utilizes the electronic music technique of "Sampling"
(the process of taking a piece of audio and reworking it as part of a new composition),
as the framework in creating his current visual works. Through assemblage, Readymade sculpture and collage, Millan "Samples" his surroundings and explores the decontextualization of the object/image and its infinite possibilities. Saul's use of musical notation as a visual language places performance within the mundane.
Since 2022, Millan has presented his work at Museo de Arte de Sonora (MUSAS) (Hermosillo, Sonora), Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana-Casa Rafael Galvan (Cuidad de Mexico), Phoenix Art Museum (Phoenix, AZ), Palabra Collective (Phoenix, AZ), Xico (Phoenix, AZ), Modified Arts (Phoenix, AZ) and CALA Alliance (Phoenix, AZ).
Currently Saul lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona, performs music with Los Esplifs and Se Habla Español,
Co-Curates for the Artist Collective A.M.O, and serves as Assistant Curator for CALA Alliance.
